Annual Gala

Ware and Wülfrath – Annual Swimming Gala

This year the gala between the swimming clubs of Ware and Wülfrath is being hosted in Wülfrath.

It will take place from Saturday 12 – Thursday 17th April, 2025.

Good Luck and best wishes to all those taking part.

A report of the event will be posted here in due course.

The home of Ware Swimming Club is Fanshawe Pool.

Due to funding cuts the pool was closed in December 2024.

Roy Mansfield

21 July 1934 – 24 October 2024

We are sorry to announce the recent death of Roy Mansfield, one of Ware Town Twinning Association Vice-Presidents

Roy had been a stalwart member of Town Twinning for over 50 years since Ware originally twinned with the town of Wulfrath in what was then West Germany. With his wife, Irene, they drove to Wulfrath each year to work on our stall at the Christmas Market, Weihnachtsmarkt. They hosted visitors from Wulfrath and were involved in all events. Irene sadly passed away about 30 years ago, but, undaunted, Roy continued to work with Town Twinning, subsequently with his companion, Rosemary. They made many friends in Wulfrath, with whom they kept in touch even after his ill health prevented Roy from being actively involved.

He will be greatly missed.

Swimmers from Wülfrath arrived in Ware on Easter Monday, 1 April.

The Gala will take place on Wednesday 3 April.

Renewal of Pledge of Friendship with Cormeilles-en-Parisis

The weekend of 8-10 March 2024 sees the Renewal of the Pledge between Ware and Cormeilles. The first Pledge of Friendship between the two towns was signed in Cormeilles in 2001.

Seven members of the Town Twinning Association will be attending plus the Town Mayor, Councillor Tom Day, accompanied by five other Town Councillors, along with Terry Philpott the Town Clerk and Kerry Mavis, the Priory Operations Manager.

We are advised that a full weekend is planned with some surprises!

An exciting extra dimension to the weekend is that four of the above (the Mayor, Cllr Graeme Hill, the Town Clerk and Kerry Mavis) will be cycling back to Ware from Cormeilles on Sunday with an overnight stop en-route.

A report of the weekend plus photos will follow.
